Nobody in this film wants a war. Northumbria, 1149. A Norman lord wants three hundred marks and a road home. The English lord holding the town wants to stop burying people. Between them rides Brother Oswin — the only man on the field who speaks both languages, and he doesn't speak one as well as he thinks. Three messages cross the valley.
